  • GLADNET - Global Applied Disability Research and Information Network on Employment and Training
    A network of research centers, universities, enterprises, government departments, trade unions, and organizations representing disabled persons, all committed to the common goal of advancing competitive employment and training opportunities for working age persons with disabilities. The network is an initiative of the Vocational Rehabilitation Branch of the International Labour Organization (ILO), a specialized agency of the United Nations.


  • NIDMAR - The National Institute of Disability Management and Research
    A national training and research institute funded by public and private Canadian organizations to assist workplaces in implementing disability management programs with a focus on reintegration. Programs include: education and training, research and policy development, an electronic information resource (REHADAT) and workplace program implementation.


  • ODI - Office for Disability Issues, Human Resources Development Canada
    This office within the Canadian government has the mandate to advance the country's disability agenda. It operates a funding program to develop and promote nationally significant research and to identify and develop models of best practices or of new service delivery initiatives designed to meet the social development needs of populations who may be at risk.

  • Lund University - HAREC Disability and Rehabilitation Research Center
    An interdisciplinary research center at Lund University. The center serves the universites in Southern Sweden-- Lund University, The Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, Malmö University and Kristianstad University-- in strengthening research on disability and rehabilitation.


  • Upsala University - Centre for Disability Research
    Coordinates information about research on disabilities within different disciplines at Upsala University. Developing multidisciplinary database for information retrieval on disabilities. Swedish language.

    This site gives access to the Disability and Business Technical Assistance Centers (DBTACs) which provide information, materials, technical assistance, and training on the ADA.


  • AUCD - Association of University Centers on Disabilities
    A membership organization which promotes and supports the national network of university centers on disabilities, which also includes Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental and Related Disabilities (LEND) Programs and Developmental Disabilities Research Centers (DDRC).


  • CDC - Centers for Disease Control, Disability and Health
    Disability and Health is part of the National Center for Birth Defects and Developmental Disabilities at the CDC. Disability and Health supports several programs, projects, and activities aimed at maintaining and improving the health of families, adults, and children living with disabilities.


  • DALCPT - Office of Disability, Aging and Long-Term Care Policy
    DALTCP is in the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Planning and Evaluation within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. DALCPT is charged with developing, analyzing, evaluating and coordinating HHS policies and programs which support the independence, productivity, health and long-term care needs of children, working age adults and older persons with disabilities. DALCPT reports are available here.


  • DHHS - Department of Health and Human Services
    DHHS manages the Healthy People national health promotion and disease prevention initiative. The Health People 2010 plan for the first time includes health objectives for people with disabilities.


  • DHHS - Department of Health and Human Services Administration on Developmental Disabilities
    Funds the Consortium of Developmental Disabilities Councils (CDDC), National Association of Developmental Disabilities Council (NADDC), National Association of Protection and Advocacy Systems (NAPAS), American Association of University Affiliated Programs (AAUAP).


  • DisabilityInfo.gov - U.S. Federal Government Portal
    A comprehensive, Federal, interagency web portal for people with disabilities, their families, employers, service providers, and other community members including information about civil rights, education, employment, housing, health, income support, technology, transportation, and community life.

    Excerpt from the report Introduction: Our overall goals are to stimulate discussion, inform the general public, and provide a context for policymakers and others whose knowledge or experience may be limited to certain aspects or types of linkage. To this end, we present examples of (1) different types of linkage projects, (2) major privacy issues, (3) privacy-protection techniques, and (4) strategies for enhancing "data stewardship." In addition, we lay the groundwork for more comprehensive inquiry by providing questions for further study. Throughout, our focus is on linkage projects that involve person-specific data, are conducted under federal auspices (or with federal funding), and produce new research or statistical information.

The site features five searchable and browsable databases of current research, current literature, historical literature, NIDRR-funded literature and the NARIC knowledge base.


  • NCDDR - National Center for the Dissemination of Disability Research
    Funded by the National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research (NIDRR), the center is involved in research activities, demonstration activities, dissemination and utilization activities and technical assistance. The site has in-depth information on 386 NIDRR-funded projects.


  • NIDRR - National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research
    Through this Institute, the United States Department of Education$39;s Office of Special Education and Rehabilitative Services (OSERS) conducts comprehensive and coordinated programs of research and related activities to maximize the full inclusion, social integration, employment, and independent living of disabled individuals of all ages.


  • ODEP - Office of Disability Employment Policy for the Department of Labor
    Approved by Congress in the FY 2001 budget, ODEP represents the new office for the programs and staff of the former President's Committee on Employment of People with Disabilities. The mission of ODEP, under the leadership of an Assistant Secretary, will be to bring a heightened and permanent long-term focus to the goal of increasing employment of persons with disabilities.


  • OSEP - Office of Special Education Programs
    A division of the United States Department of Education's OSERS, this office administers programs and projects relating to the free appropriate public education of all children, youth and adults with disabilities, from birth through age 21.


  • OSERS - Office Of Special Education and Rehabilitative Services
    The office within the United States Department of Education responsible for funding programs that assist in educating children with special needs (OSEP), providing for the rehabilitation of youth and adults with disabilities (RSA), and supporting research to improve the lives of individuals with disabilities (NIDRR).


  • RSA - Rehabilitation Services Administration
    A division of the United States Department of Education's OSERS, the RSA oversees programs that help individuals with physical or mental disabilities to obtain employment through the provision of such supports as counseling, medical and psychological services, job training, and other individualized services.


  • SSA - Social Security Administration Disability Information
    This site features information for consumers on disablity programs, including the Social Security Handbook, Disability Publications and Forms.


  • SSA - Social Security Administration Office of Employment Support Programs - 2002 Red Book
    The 2002 "Red Book" is a summary guide to employment support available to people with disabilities under the Social Security Disability Insurance and Supplemental Security Income Programs.


  • SSA - Social Security Administration Office of Hearings and Appeals - Chicago Office
    This office conducts hearings and appeals in Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio, and Wisconsin.


  • SSA - Social Security Administration Office of Policy
    The Office of Policy produces a variety of studies designed to support SSA's policy development and policy analysis work.


  • SSA - Social Security Administration Office of Policy Internship Program
    The Internship Program provides a multitude of training opportunities including educational seminars, research briefings, historical presentations, external expert speakers, research conferences, and hearings on Capitol Hill. Interns will work with senior staff members on policy analyses, developing policy options and examining the impact of current and proposed policies on beneficiaries, on the agency, and on the federal budget. Interns will work with other research and operating components of the Social Security Administration, participate in interagency activities, and participate in meetings with other interested groups and experts.

    The Office of Program Support publishes many of the Social Security Administration's programmatic, procedural, and legal documents, Including The Full Text of the Social Security Act, as Amended, with selected provisions of the Internal Revenue Code.

    Provides access to basic statistics about prevalence, employment and income of people with disabilities.


  • CPS - Current Population Survey
    Links to information on the labor force characteristics of the U.S. population generated from a monthly survey of about 50,000 households conducted by the Bureau of the Census for the Bureau of Labor Statistics.


  • Disability Across America - Federal Data on Disability
    Links to federal agency statistics on disability including census data, and education, transportation and health statistics.

  • NIDRR - InfoUse Project
    This site includes data resources (charts, tables, surveys) on disability in the United States, as well as a section on disability organizations and accessible web design.


  • SIPP - Survey of Income and Program Participation
    This site from the U.S. Census Bureau offers information about and access to data files from SIPP, a longituditional, multi-panel survey of adult households. SIPP content is built around a "core" of labor force, program participation, and income questions designed to measure the economic situation of persons in the United States.


  • United Nations Database on International Norms and Standards
    The database is a pilot project of the UN Persons with Disabilities web site, intended to assist individuals and organizations in researching and using international norms and standards to promote the rights of persons with disabilities.

  • Center For An Accessible Society
    The Center disseminates information about independent living issues that have been developed through NIDRR-funded research.


  • National Council on Disability
    The Council is a federal agency which provides recommendations to the President and Congress on overall policy issues affecting persons with disabilities.


  • NOD - National Organization on Disability
    A national disability network organization that promotes full and equal participation of people with disabilities in all aspects of life.


  • National Rehabilitation Association
    The oldest association advocating for the rights of persons with disabilities.


  • NICHY - National Information Center for Children and Youth with Disabilities
    An information and referral center that provides families, students, educators, and others with information on disability-related topics regarding children and youth, birth through 21.


  • Rehabilitation International
    A federation of national and international organizations and agencies working for the prevention of disability, the rehabilitation of people with disabilities and the equalization of opportunities within society on behalf of persons with disabilities and their families throughout the world. RI publishes the International Rehabilitation Review and One in Ten.
