GLADNET - Global Applied Disability Research and Information Network
on Employment and Training
A network of research centers, universities, enterprises, government
departments, trade unions, and organizations representing disabled
persons, all committed to the common goal of advancing competitive
employment and training opportunities for working age persons with
disabilities. The network is an initiative of the Vocational Rehabilitation
Branch of the International Labour Organization (ILO), a specialized
agency of the United Nations.
- NIDMAR - The National Institute of Disability Management and
Research
A national training and research institute funded by public and
private Canadian organizations to assist workplaces in implementing
disability management programs with a focus on reintegration. Programs
include: education and training, research and policy development,
an electronic information resource (REHADAT) and workplace program
implementation.
- ODI - Office for Disability Issues, Human Resources Development Canada
This office within the Canadian government has the mandate to advance
the country's disability agenda. It operates a funding program to
develop and promote nationally significant research and to identify
and develop models of best practices or of new service delivery initiatives
designed to meet the social development needs of populations who may
be at risk.

Center
An interdisciplinary research center at Lund University. The
center serves the universites in Southern Sweden-- Lund University,
The Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, Malmö University
and Kristianstad University-- in strengthening research on disability
and rehabilitation.
- Upsala University - Centre for Disability Research
Coordinates information about research on disabilities within
different disciplines at Upsala University. Developing multidisciplinary
database for information retrieval on disabilities. Swedish language.

- University of Illinois at Chicago - Department of Disability
and Human Development
The Department of Disability and Human Development is dedicated
to the scholarly, interdisciplinary study of disability and related
aspects of human development. It critically examines current and
prospective disability policies, conceptual models, and intervention
strategies in terms of their historical development and their
present merits.
- University of Illinois at Chicago - Center on Emergent Disability
Part of the UIC Department of Human Development, the Center's
core activities include: secondary analyses of major data sets,
evaluation of public health surveillance systems, local needs
assessments, policy analysis, and dissemination of research findings.
- University of Illinois at Chicago - National Center on Physical
Activity and Disability
The center gathers, organizes, evaluates, synthesizes, and
disseminates information on the state of the science in physical
activity and disability. The site offers factsheets, monographs,
and bibliographies, as well as databases containing information
about programs, equipment vendors, conferences, and published
literature.

- University of Montana - Rural Institute
The Rural Institute is part of the national network of programs
funded by the Administration on Developmental Disabilities (ADD)
committed to assisting in the provision of interdisciplinary training,
research, service demonstration programs, leverage of funds, and

productivity, and inclusion into the community of persons with
developmental disabilities.

- ERIC/OSEP Special Project - ERIC Clearinghouse on Disabilities
and Gifted Education
ERIC EC gathers and disseminates the professional literature,
information, and resources on the education and development of
individuals of all ages who have disabilities and/or who are gifted.
- JASH - Journal of the Association for Persons with Severe
Handicaps
A quarterly journal published by TASH (formerly The Association
for Persons with Severe Handicaps) that emphasizes articles that
report original research. Each issue includes four or five scholarly
articles and conveys organization news.
- Journal of the National Rehabilitation Association
An internationally-acclaimed scholarly journal on the cutting
edge of rehabilitation research.
- Journal of Rehabilitation Research and Development
A peer-reviewed scientific rehabilitation research and development
journal published by The Department of Veterans Affairs. Includes
abstracts of recent literature with links to publishers.
- Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report
The report is prepared by the Centers for Disease Control and
Prevention (CDC), based on weekly reports to CDC by state health
departments.

A quarterly peer-reviewed journal that takes an interdisciplinary
approach in addressing psychosocial and behavioral aspects of
rehabilitation.

The organization provides comprehsneive links to publications
on assistive technology related to vocational rehab needs.
- University at Buffalo Center for International Rehabilitation
Research Information and Exchange (CIRRIE) Database
CIRRIE prepares a bibliographic database containing citations
relating to all areas of rehabilitation research conducted outside
of the United States, including mainstream journals, citations
to resources not readily available to U.S. researchers, and fullext
publications on the Internet. Abstracts are available for most
citations. It presently includes citations from 1996 to the present
and will eventually include citations from 1990 to the present.

Center for Economic Research on Employment Policy for Persons
with Disabilities
Provides access to basic statistics about prevalence, employment
and income of people with disabilities.
- CPS - Current Population Survey
Links to information on the labor force characteristics of
the U.S. population generated from a monthly survey of about 50,000
households conducted by the Bureau of the Census for the Bureau
of Labor Statistics.
- Disability Across America - Federal Data on Disability
Links to federal agency statistics on disability including
census data, and education, transportation and health statistics.

GAO Report: Record Linkage and Privacy Issues in Creating New
Federal Research and Statistical Information. April 2001 GAO-01-126SP.
Excerpt from the report Introduction: Our overall goals are
to stimulate discussion, inform the general public, and provide
a context for policymakers and others whose knowledge or experience
may be limited to certain aspects or types of linkage. To this
end, we present examples of (1) different types of linkage projects,
(2) major privacy issues, (3) privacy-protection techniques, and
(4) strategies for enhancing " data stewardship." In
addition, we lay the groundwork for more comprehensive inquiry
by providing questions for further study. Throughout, our focus
is on linkage projects that involve person-specific data, are
conducted under federal auspices (or with federal funding), and
produce new research or statistical information.

This site provides access to a vast archive of social science
data for research and instruction, and offers training in quantitative
methods to facilitate effective data use.
- KFF - The Kaiser Family Foundation, State Health Facts
The Kaiser "State Health Facts" web site offers state-by-state
data on a wide variety of health policy topics including health
insurance coverage and characteristics of the uninsured, minority
health - including breakdowns of data by racial/ethnic group -
enrollment and spending for Medicare, Medicaid and the S-CHIP
program, population demographics, and health status measures.
- NIDRR - InfoUse Project
This site includes data resources (charts, tables, surveys)
on disability in the United States, as well as a section on disability
organizations and accessible web design.
- SIPP - Survey of Income and Program Participation
This site from the U.S. Census Bureau offers information about
and access to data files from SIPP, a longituditional, multi-panel
survey of adult households. SIPP content is built around a "core"
of labor force, program participation, and income questions designed
to measure the economic situation of persons in the United States.
- United Nations Database on International Norms and Standards
The database is a pilot project of the UN Persons with Disabilities
web site, intended to assist individuals and organizations in
researching and using international norms and standards to promote
the rights of persons with disabilities.
- University of California, San Francisco - Disability Statistics
Center
A national center of research and training in disability statistics.
- University of Michigan - SAMHDA Substance Abuse and Mental
Health Data Archive
A searchable site of substance abuse and mental health research
data.
- U.S. Social Security Administration, Office of Policy
The Office of Policy produces a variety of studies designed to support
SSA's policy development and policy analysis work.
- U.S. Social Security Administration, Ticket to Work Program
MAXIMUS administers the Ticket to Work Program on contract.
This website maintained by MAXIMUS offers training programs, an
Employment Network Directory, and data on beneficiaries by state
and diagnosis code.

- Center For An Accessible Society
The Center disseminates information about independent living
issues that have been developed through NIDRR-funded research.
- National Council on Disability
The Council is a federal agency which provides recommendations
to the President and Congress on overall policy issues affecting
persons with disabilities.
- NOD - National Organization on Disability
A national disability network organization that promotes full
and equal participation of people with disabilities in all aspects
of life.
- National Rehabilitation Association
The oldest association advocating for the rights of persons
with disabilities.
- NICHY - National Information Center for Children and Youth
with Disabilities
An information and referral center that provides families,
students, educators, and others with information on disability-related
topics regarding children and youth, birth through 21.
- Rehabilitation International
A federation of national and international organizations and
agencies working for the prevention of disability, the rehabilitation
of people with disabilities and the equalization of opportunities
within society on behalf of persons with disabilities and their
families throughout the world. RI publishes the International
Rehabilitation Review and One in Ten.
- Society for Disability Studies
A nonprofit scientific and educational organization established
to promote interdisciplinary research on humanistic and social
scientific aspects of disability and chronic illness.

A non-profit international public policy institute dedicated
to carrying out cutting-edge research on disability issues and

Part of the University of Buffalo's Center for Assistive Technology,
this site features disability information in a wide variety of
areas.
- DisabilityInfo.gov - U.S. Federal Government Portal
A comprehensive, Federal, interagency web portal for people
with disabilities, their families, employers, service providers,
and other community members including information about civil
rights, education, employment, housing, health, income support,
technology, transportation, and community life.
